Royal Mail delivery updates

The following statement is taken from the Royal Mail website today, Monday 20th December;

"Royal Mail has announced up to 14,000 extra delivery rounds across the UK, weather permitting, over the next four evenings.
  • Deliveries are planned for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening.
  • Around two million homes are expected to receive an evening delivery this week.
  • Royal Mail expects to have carried out around 25,000 extra rounds by Christmas
More heavy snow and freezing temperatures over the last few days are causing further significant disruption to services and affecting our ability to collect, process, transport and deliver the large, concentrated volumes of mail we receive at this, the busiest time of the year.

Most delivery and collection services are still taking place today in the 3000 postcode districts across the country and we will continue to operate services in all areas provided conditions are safe. Some delivery and collection services may be particularly disrupted in Northern Ireland, Wales, parts of Scotland and in parts of the South East, the Midlands, the South West, North West, East Anglia and the Thames Valley. More information about how services in your area may be affected today is available on the regional pages.

Whilst we have been and will continue to do all we can to get mail to customers, the current conditions, added to significant disruption throughout December, means there are delays to mail travelling through our UK network. We have been operating national and local contingency plans for some time to keep mail moving and being delivered.

We are continuing to make every effort to deliver to customers. Additional deliveries took place across the country on Saturday and Sunday this weekend and we will be taking every opportunity to perform extra deliveries all this week including delivering during the evenings.

Delivery information
Extensive contingency plans remain in operation to help us deliver as much mail to customers as quickly as possible this week: They include:

Additional staff and managerial volunteers making deliveries across the UK
  • Taking every opportunity to perform extra deliveries early in the morning, during the day and in the evenings in addition to normal daily deliveries.
  • Extended enquiry office opening hours for customers to collect mail we have already tried to deliver (details of opening times on the back of the card we left you).

    Premium services update - Special Delivery™

    Whilst we are continuing to accept and prioritise Special Delivery items posted before the latest posting date of 23rd December, weather conditions mean some of these items are likely to experience a delay as they move through our pipeline. We therefore cannot guarantee next day delivery of all items in all parts of the UK and to provide customers with clear guidance, the Special Delivery™ guarantee remains temporarily withdrawn.
